Meat Company Finds Help To Fund Growth

Gettinger Custom Meats

Gettinger Family Custom Meats is a growing small business located in Rush County

Gettinger Family Custom Meats is a custom processing meat plant tucked in rural Rush County, providing processing services for a variety of meat. They also offer a full deli and freezer section stocked with high-quality meat at their retail shop in Rushville. Sam Gettinger contacted Scott Underwood, East Central ISBDC business advisor, when it was time to apply for a loan through the Rush County Economic and Community Development Corporation (ECDC). Scott helped them get the paperwork into the format needed for the bank and ECDC. After the initial loan, Gettinger Meats worked with Scott to fine-tune their financial reports when they refinanced with MainSource Bank.

“Everybody we’ve worked with through our local ECDC and the East Central ISBDC has really helped us as a small business,” noted Sam Gettinger. “It’s a wonderful program that really helps businesses. A lot of banks wouldn’t have touched us with a 10-foot pole as a new business, but they really helped with that.”

When working with Gettinger, Scott found that Sam was like many small business owners and had a good pulse on his business, but it wasn’t translating into “banker-speak.”

“Two hours after we started, Sam had pro-forma projections that helped him better understand his business and satisfied the bank requirements to get the financing he was seeking,” Scott said. “After creating a road map for his growth and profitability, Sam has a tool to help measure his success and make course corrections to meet his long-term goals.”
