Opportunities for Families Through Recreation
Entrepreneur, Dan Jefferson, was referred to the SE ISBDC by Michael Rozo, Jr., President/COO Dearborn County Chamber of Commerce, in August of 2010. It was Mr. Jefferson’s desire to open a recreation facility offering a variety of programs for youth, adults and seniors. When Mr. Jefferson approached the ISBDC for assistance, he already owned and operated one successful business, but had never created a business plan. Subsequently, Mr. Jefferson worked with advisor, Kelly Will to write the plan. Will provided demographic research, including sports and leisure market potential, as well as industry research. Together, Jefferson and Will were able to determine a target market and project potential membership and participation revenue in order to complete the plan. Regarding the business plan, Jefferson states “Will went into great detail which helped me a lot”. Jefferson advises new entrepreneurs to use the extensive research provided by the ISBDC prior to starting a business.
