Starting a Business Step 2: Educate Yourself
Take the time to do your homework in this area. How well your new business is managed will largely determine the success or failure of your venture. You can educate yourself on business management by scouring your local library, or making use of materials available at your ISBDC office. Many ISBDC regional offices also offer classes that can assist you in learning to manage your business. It is also a good idea to make contact with someone in your field who is willing to serve as a mentor. Talking with a person who has successfully managed a small business or start-up will give you an edge when you need to tackle your own issues and problems. Never stop learning. A little effort on your part can result in big dividends.

“I like the personal touch and genuine concern provided by the SBDC while working through the process. Working with the SBDC has helped me gain confidence in my abilities and in my product.”
