Supply Store Ties Together Knitting Community

Jamie Gunnink is celebrating the January move of her knitting, crocheting and spinning supply store from her home to a retail location in Griffith. Gunnink says Spinnin’ Yarns fills a niche for Northwest Indiana knitters and crocheters by offering an outside-the-big-box-store yarn supply and connecting the community through classes and camaraderie. After tackling supply issues as a home-based business, she now finds facing her financial concerns is the biggest challenge to overcome after making the move.

Gunnink found guidance writing her business plan through the NWI SBDC’s class and afterwards, she connected with Business Advisor Cindy Bertram for help with vendor sources and additional direction. She believes resources such as the SBDC are vital to new entrepreneurs because they offer key information on the process of building a business along with the advisors’ insight and expertise.
