Betsy Jaffee

Betsy is a graduate of IU South Bend, and has been employed there for over 11 years. She began her career at IU South Bend as Administrative Assistant to the Dean of the School of the Arts. During this time she was an active volunteer with a wildlife rescue organization, which eventually led to a job offer from Potawatomi Zoo in South Bend. It was a rather drastic career move, but it seemed too good of an opportunity to pass up. Betsy then embarked on a 12 year career as a zookeeper, learning much about animals AND people in the process. After many amazing experiences and much heavy lifting Betsy decided to return to IU South Bend and has remained there to this day. She began as a Student Services Representative in the Office of International Student Services and quickly moved up to Executive Secretary to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. When the Vice Chancellor took another job and his position was not filled, Betsy began reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Services, and this is where she remained for the last two years prior to her accepting the position as Office Administrator with the ISBDC. Betsy is a professional musician, and is a member of the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra and the Whiting Park Festival Orchestra. She and her husband John, who is a retired zookeeper, enjoy hiking and canoeing and exploring the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Betsy is also an avid Crossfitter. She is excited about her new role with the ISBDC and looks forward to being part of a great team.
