Let’s Work Together

Beyond Borders

Nov 19th, 2015

Kokomo, Indiana — As a middle school Spanish teacher, DeAndra Beard wanted to transition into a new career, while still remaining true to her passion, teaching. Seeing a lack of opportunities for adults to learn a different language in her community, she decided to open Beyond Borders Language Center. With the help of her business advisor, Monty Henderson, she was able to identify her target markets, identify a location for the center, and create a business plan.

Opened in October of 2014, Beyond Borders Language Center is already becoming a vibrant and popular small business in the community. As a participant in First Friday activities in Kokomo, DeAndra has attracted new clientele. Along with many other services, she specifically accompanies her clients to places where they can put their lessons into practice with Spanish-speaking individuals.

“The HHISBDC provided me with many resources to help in planning for my business. My business advisor was more than happy to meet with me and review my progress. With his help, I was able to grow my business.” DeAndra Beard
