Will and Kim Drook were regular customers at Armstrong Cleaners and Formalwear, and when the opportunity came to purchase the only major dry cleaning company in the city of Richmond, they decided to pursue it. One of the first steps they made before purchasing the business was to contact Scott Underwood, business advisor with the East Central Indiana Small Business Development Center.
Scott helped the Drooks develop a business model and plan, and helped them review the state of the business financials and the economic viability of the business. The Drooks decided to purchase the business based on data, using the financial outlook and market analysis for the area that Scott provided.
The company has two locations: 1019 North A Street and 651 NW 5th Street in Richmond. In addition to providing dry cleaning services and tuxedo rental, Armstrong can do general laundry, allowing clients to drop off dirty clothing and pick it up clean and folded. They can clean leather items, curtains, comforters, linens, and rugs. Armstrong preserves important garments including wedding dresses and military uniforms. The company recently acquired new, environmentally friendly dry cleaning equipment. The new green system leaves clothes smelling fresh and is able to remove mold and the smell of smoke. This is particularly helpful following a fire or flood.
