Kelly Maucere took her passion for baking and turned it into a business in 2008. My Sugar Pie offers 40 types of pies using family recipes and wholesome ingredients. The pies are sold retail and wholesale in the Zionsville/Indianapolis area and mail order via the company’s website. My Sugar Pie is now available by the slice at St. Elmo Steak House and all three Harry & Izzy’s locations. And Country Living Magazine recently named My Sugar Pie as one of the “Best Mail-Order Pie” companies in the United States.
For the first three years, Kelly made all of her pies in the rented kitchen of Zionsville’s Cobblestone Café. As a result of strong demand, Kelly pursued financing to establish a full-fledged bakery/café in downtown Zionsville. In early 2011 she was approved by Old National Bank for a loan and she began converting a building she already owned. The bakery/café opened in August, 2011 and My Sugar Pie has grown to ten employees. The Central Indiana SBDC worked with Kelly from the very beginning (in 2008) and most recently assisted her on the business plan she presented with her financing proposal and advised her on market research, marketing strategy, and other issues.
