Kelly was referred to the ISBDC by the Goshen Chamber of Commerce and first met with Business Advisor Alan Steele on January 31, 2012. Initial assistance included an in-depth evaluation of market potential for the shop, which was supported via ESRI studies for two locations in Elkhart County. A site in Goshen was ultimately selected, and ISBDC engagement shifted to assistance in development of a business plan and financial projections. The plan was completed in March, and ultimately resulted in approval for an SBA loan in April.
With funding secured, Kelly signed a lease and began preparation of the space. ISBDC support included consultation on branding, signage, development of a marketing plan, and implementation of a loyalty program. The store officially opened with a ribbon cutting on May 22 and a full scale grand opening, complete with live radio remote broadcast, on May 26.
The business’ performance has exceeded expectations and Kelly continues to work with the ISBDC. Ongoing priorities include cost and financial analysis, marketing, product line diversification, and expansion of the business into catering.
