Daniel began playing the clarinet at the age of 12 in Venezuela where he was born and became one of only four children chosen to play the clarinet in the Venezuelan Youth Orchestra. By the time Daniel came to the United States in 2005 to go to college he was already an extremely accomplished musician. After college, Daniel planned to become a music teacher and teach the clarinet, but he found something that piqued his interest.
To earn extra money, Daniel began buying clarinets on eBay and doing the cleaning and repairs necessary to ready them for resale. Daniel has a natural ability to make videos and had the idea to list his clarinets for sale on eBay along with a video of him playing the actual clarinet that the person would be bidding on. Daniel quickly realized that with his knowledge of clarinets and his ability to play them, he had the right ingredients to start a successful business in buying and selling clarinets.
Daniel Mendoza came to the North Central ISBDC in December of 2012 seeking assistance in starting his online business. The NC-ISBDC helped Daniel with business counseling and also scheduled him for QuickBooks classes to help him keep his business accounting. The NC-ISBDC helped Daniel create a business strategy and work through contract negotiations with companies who will supply him with used and new instruments.
Daniel is regularly selling his clarinets on eBay and will soon be opening a brick-and-mortar storefront in South Bend to accommodate local walk-in traffic.
